Insurer warns of drink-driving risks
Drivers who do not declare a drink driving conviction to their insurer and subsequently crash their car are risking a serious financial blow, it has been claimed.
Erik Nelson, a spokesperson for Norwich Union, said that failing to disclose these convictions is looked upon unfavorably by insurers and could even result in a policyholder's car insurance claim being rejected.
Mr Nelson explained: "If a motorist fails to declare their convictions they risk their motor insurance policy becoming void in the event of a claim. Honesty is always the best policy!"
A report by the Motor Insurers' Bureau from September 2007 found that uninsured drivers were ten times more likely to have a drink driving conviction than insured drivers.
This group was also found to be six times more likely to be driving an unsafe vehicle.
