Older Brits fear higher energy bills
Older Britons are becoming increasingly worried about the prospect of higher energy bills this winter and the sacrifices they will be forced to make to pay them, it has been revealed.
In a survey conducted by Populus on behalf of Saga, it was discovered that 86 per cent of Britons aged 50 or above have already made changes to their lifestyle to meet the expected extra energy costs.
Furthermore, 35 per cent of the group said they are concerned over the cutbacks they will have to make when winter sets in.
The study's findings follow the announcement from British Gas that it is hiking its gas and electricity tariffs by 35 per cent and nine per cent respectively - in what is thought to be the largest ever single price rise imposed by a UK energy company.
EDF has also put up its prices, with rival energy companies expected to follow suit in the months to come.
